Source: Unknown newspaper – obit from a collection of obituaries (marked Dec 1944) saved by Rosemarie Sutherlin

Believe to have been despondent over ill health, Archie Nine, age 60, farmer living two miles northwest of Hillsboro hanged himself in a barn at his farm Tuesday morning. According to a daughter, Mrs. Georgia Crumley who lived with him, Mr. Nine left the house about 6 a.m. to do his chores. He had not returned at 8 a.m. and Mrs. Crumley sent her son, Marvin to look for him. The latter found his grandfather’s body in the barn.  Coroner Wisher Myers of Veedersburg returned a verdict of suicide. Mr. Nine was born on the farm where he died on Jan 15, 1884, the only son of James and Mary Quiggle Nine. He was married to Bessie Boord who died in November 1918. The deceased was a member of the Congregational Christian Church of Mellott.  Surviving Mr. Nine are one son, Ivan Nine who also lives on the farm but in another house; the daughter, Mrs. Crumley and four grandchildren.  The funeral will be held from the Hillsboro Christian Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock in charge of Rev. Charles Howard of Sterling. Burial will be made at Rose Hill Cemetery at Hillsboro. The body will lie in state at the church for an hour preceding the funeral. – kbz
